Odesa is a major port city in the southwestern part of Ukraine and the administrative center of Odesa Oblast. Founded in 1794 on the site of a former Turkish fortress on the coast of the Black Sea, the city has a rich history and a strong multicultural heritage.

Rich architecture and a distinctive urban landscape shape Odesa’s identity. Among its main attractions are Theater Square, the Holy Assumption Cathedral, and the House of Scientists. Sculpture Park is an excellent place for walking or reading, while picturesque squares such as City Square and Palais Royal enhance the city’s charm. Much of the city’s golden-age architecture has been preserved in elegant palaces, cultured parks, boulevards, ceremonial stairways, and the iconic Opera House, considered one of the finest in Europe.

The most popular beaches include Arcadia, Luzanovka, and Lanzheron. While in the city, visitors are encouraged to see the Odesa Opera and Ballet Theatre, Passage, the Odesa Art Museum, and the famous Potemkin Steps. Beneath the streets lies a vast network of catacombs — one of the largest underground labyrinth systems in the world.

Odesa is also known for its distinctive sense of humor and vibrant cultural life, reflected in numerous festivals, street performances, and creative spaces. Its cuisine combines Black Sea seafood with Mediterranean and Eastern European influences, with local markets such as Pryvoz offering an authentic taste of the city.

As one of Ukraine’s key port cities, Odesa plays an important role in trade, culture, and international exchange. Its long-standing maritime traditions, dynamic urban life, and open, welcoming character continue to shape the city as a vibrant cultural and economic center of the Black Sea region.
